LACE, SECON DWEAVING:
IN PURSUIT OF SILENCE
Lace, Second Weaving: In Pursuit of Silence continues collective knotting and embroidery. It is created at the intersection of contemporary dance and music, based on co-authorship and incompleteness. It develops gradually, weaving together the unique and diverse patterns of all the participants, who autonomously shape an ever-changing form.
The second weaving of Lace explores the theme of silence; not as the absence of music and dance, but as a sense of peace within action.
In the first weaving, the focus was on strings—linear and sharp sounds, and the tension between two ends in the search for intonation between polarities. This new chapter of Cipka undergoes a natural expansion - from line/string to surface. The surface opens up a door to new tensions in space. Tensions between at least three points, which is ultimately, all we need to define a surface. It explores the relationship between planes and the vibrations and deformations of their surfaces, between skins, floor, walls, the diaphragm, or between the horizontal, sagittal, and frontal planes that simultaneously determine and divide the space into left and right, forward and backward, above and below. One of the consequences is bringing the bass to the forefront—a wave that travels outward from the point of "impact", in all directions, through us and all other matter.
The second weaving seeks to create an atmospheric balance, where it feels as if one is at rest, even if everything is in motion ... In pursuit of silence.
The interdisciplinary project Lace is named after the decorative openwork fabric made of thread, an important part of the cultural heritage of many countries worldwide, including Slovenia. It is inspired by the complex cultural history of lace, but especially by its intangible and invisible aspects. Each lace product reflects not only its own developmental path but also that of many other lace-making techniques. It embodies a history of influences and exchanges of countless patterns and shapes, infused with the creativity of its many creators and the diversity of its meanings.
The performance Lace, Second Weaving: In Pursuit of Silence is woven by four dancers and musicians from Slovenia, Portugal, and the Czech Republic: Gregor Luštek, Kristijan Krajnčan, Eduardo Raon, and Kristýna Peldová.
